Charley Hoffman Foundation

PGA TOUR Professional
www.charleyhoffman.com

In 2008, PGA TOUR player Charley Hoffman established the Charley Hoffman Pro-Am to benefit the San Diego Junior Golf Association. The 2012 event at Del Mar Country Cub was a huge success, raising $118,000 for the SDJGA. PGA TOUR Professionals in the field included Phil Mickelson, Chris Riley, Rickie Fowler, John Mallinger, Ricky Barnes, James Driscoll, Rocco Mediate, Jamie Lovemark, Bill Lunde, Scott Simpson, DJ Trahan, Dennis Paulson, Tom Pernice, Chez Reavie, Ryuji Imada, Cameron Tringale, and Spencer Levin.

"I sometimes wonder if I would be where I am today if it wasn't for junior golf. Not only did I have the opportunity to test my game against the best juniors in the world, I had the opportunity to build relationships with some wonderful people. I truly believe the SDJGA impacted my life in a profound way and that is why I am dedicated to helping ensure the next generation of junior golfers has the same positive experience I did. The proceeds from the Charley Hoffman Pro-Am will assist the SDJGA in providing high quality events and provide financial assistance to those who need it because every junior who wants to play should have the opportunity."

Callaway Golf

Callaway Golf became the title sponsor of the Junior World Golf Championship in 2003. The partnership has allowed the SDJGA to further broaden our scope internationally and secure the best players in the world.  The Callaway Junior World Golf Championships annually hosts 1200 talented junior golfers from 55 countries and 45 states.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE WHERE WE LIVE AND WORK

We don't just work here; we live here, play here and are part of the San Diego County community. Following the lead of our late Founder, Ely Callaway, Callaway Golf believes it's important to build more than just great golf equipment; we're also passionate about building great communities and making a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors - especially those in need.

Craig Stadler

Champions TOUR
www.craigstadler.com

Craig Stadler is one of the most exemplary players to have participated with the San Diego Junior Golf Association. Since turning pro in 1975, Craig has recorded 12 PGA TOUR victories, including the Master's. Craig has been a key financial contributor to the organization for more than 30 years. The Craig Stadler Pro-Am, held until 2002, helped generate more than $1,000,000 for the SDJGA.  "I owe so much of what I have to Junior Golf. I really enjoyed playing with kids my own age and learning how to be competitive. Donating proceeds from my Pro-Amto Junior Golf was the least I could do to pay back what they gave me."

Figueras Fund

The Figueras Memorial Novice Series was established in 2011 by the Thomas and Figueras families in honor of Tony Figueras. The Figueras family has been a strong supporter of the SDJGA since the early 1980’s when their daughter, Tana Re, became a member. The family wanted to create a series of events that would allow a new player a comfortable setting to try the game in a semi-competitive environment. The Figueras Memorial Series provides novice players the opportunity to experience golf tournaments with the support of a parent-caddie as well as a stroke maximum.

Mrs. A.S. "Lou" Smith Memorial sponsored by Joan and Al Smith

After shuttling kids to and from Los Angeles to play in junior tournaments, John Brown and an original group of 50 young players started their own tournaments at the then Mission Valley Country Club in 1952. Two years later John asked a friend, Lou Smith, to take over day-to-day operations, which she did as Executive Secretary until 1986. John Brown became and remained President of the San Diego County Junior Golf Association for the next 33 years, then handed responsibility over to Norrie West, who remained President until 1993. Lou Smith passed on the torch to her daughter-in-law Joan Smith, who served the Association and its members for 40 years before retiring in the year 2000.

Phil Mickelson

Phil has generously underwritten sponsorship of the PHIL MICKELSON JUNIOR PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP since its inception. Phil continues to be one of the SDJGA's most respected and recognized alumni members. Winner of 40 professional golf events, including 4 major championships and the 2004 Masters, he and his wife Amy support many worthy causes through their family foundation. The San Diego Junior Golf Association is extremely proud to have had Phil Mickelson as a past member. As stated by himself, the Association was a guiding force in his early development both on and off the course.

Chris Riley Junior

Chris Riley has sponsored the CHRIS RILEY JUNIOR for the past few years. In 2004 he began sponsoring the JOHN W. BROWN MEMORIAL. John Brown was not only one of the original founders of the San Diego Junior Golf Association, but was an influential member of the Riley "golfing family" serving as a mentor for Chris and his father Mike (an outstanding amateur player in his own right). Chris wanted to further memorialize "Brownie" with a tournament in his honor. Chris Riley was an exemplary member of the SDJGA going on to become a four-time All-American selection at the University of Las Vegas where he graduated with a Communications Degree in 1996. He is now a member of the PGA TOUR.

Don & Betty Stadler Memorial

Don and Betty Stadler were long time supporters of the SDJGA.  Betty served as a member of the Association's Board of Directors for several years, and husband Don found time to be an active volunteer while still operating a successful business, Stadler Drug Company in Pacific Beach, California, until his retirement.  Craig Stadler now sponsors the tournament in honor of his mom and dad.  The Stadler family's many contributions have materially improved SDJGA programs over the years. We are honored to have the Stadler Family as a continuing sponsor.

Paul Benoit Memorial

Joan has been a long time supporter of the San Diego Junior Golf Association starting in 1968 when she served in key volunteer positions at the inaugural Junior World Golf Championships. Her interest in playing the game, on a recreational level, led her to Tecolote Canyon Golf Club where she made the acquaintance of Paul Benoit, the facility's Assistant Manager. Paul shared Joan's love of golf as well as baseball, both being Padres' season ticket holders. Upon Mr. Benoit's passing in 1983, Joan began her sponsorship and establishment of the Paul Benoit Memorial Junior. She also created, in 1998, an endowment that will ensure the event's place on the SDJGA schedule of summer tournaments in perpetuity.

Ms. Adaskin passed away in 2012 but her legacy will live on through the Paul Benoit Memorial. The SDJGA is richer as an organization from the insights and contributions of individuals such as Joan Adaskin.

John Wirges Memorial

John Wirges a long time friend of the SDJGA, was a publicist at the Naval Training Center. He passed away in May of 1991. During his active participation with the Association, he became a friend to many juniors and Craig Stadler in particular. Craig Stadler began his sponsorship of the John Wirges Memorial in August of 1991.

The Donald & Carole Chaiken Foundation

The SDJGA receives an annual grant from the Chaiken Foundation through the generosity of Dana Chaiken and Susan Roll. The grant is designated for the promotion of girls golf in San Diego.

The Cubic Corporation Classic

Cubis has been a mainstay on the SDJGA schedule for over 25 years. The tournament more recently has been underwritten by the Walter J. & Betty C. Zable Foundation. This Foundation, named for Cubic founder Walter Zable and his wife, has also been instrumental in funding many SDJGA program upgrades in 2003. Founded in San Diego in 1951, Cubic Corporation's two major segments, Cubic Defense Applications and Cubic Transportation Systems, provide a wide spectrum of products and services to both the military and civilian markets. Cubic Corporation has been traded on the American Stock Exchange since 1959 under the symbol of CUB.
