Callaway Junior World Qualifying for 2014
As we begin our membership enrollment for the 2014 season we would like to inform you of some significant changes that have been made to our Junior World Qualifying format. For the past couple years we have offered two 4-tournament series (SJWQ for the spring and JWQ for the summer) in which players could earn points to ultimately earn qualifying spots for Junior World, wherein the number of spots awarded varied by division and residency. After much discussion the SDJGA has decided to eliminate the two-series format in favor of one, six-tournament series. In addition to the six-tournament series we will be holding 3 single event Junior World Open Qualifiers. These single event qualifiers will offer JW spots to the top 1 or 2 finishers of each event, depending on division. We will also be holding a JW Open Qualifier the Thursday before JW, as we have in past years. Player of the Year points will not be awarded for the 3 single event open qualifiers, only the other six events and the Tour Championship will carry points. Please refer to SDJGA.org for a complete breakdown of how many JW spots will be available by division, with regards to residency as well. We realize there may be some confusion understanding these changes and would be happy to explain more clearly if need be. Please contact Andrew@sdjga.org or Chris@sdjga.org for clarification or call us at 619-546-6737. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all out on the course in 2014!
6 tournament series: Cumulative point totals determine exemptions.
Divisions 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-17: Boys get 4 SD Residents & 2 Open Spots; Girls get 3 SD Residents & 2 Open spots.
8-U Division: Boys will receive 3 SD Residents & 2 Open Spots; Girls will receive 2 SD Residents and 1 Open Spot.
Exemptions will trickle past any already exempt players. These 6 events, the Junior World bonus points, and the Tour Championship will determine the 2014 Player of the Year and 2015 Junior World exemption for that top finisher.
3 New Open Qualifiers with 2014 JW exemptions on the line:
Divisions 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18: Boys get 2 unrestricted exemptions per event; Girls get 1 unrestricted exemption per event.
8-U Division: Boys and girls each get 1 unrestricted exemption per event.
These events will not be for season points so they are truly optional qualifiers for our members.
- Please refer to the tournament title when distinguishing which events are part of either the 6-tournament series or one of the 3 JW Open Qualifiers. Not all tournaments may be listed at this time, please check back periodically for tournament schedule updates.
- All players attempting to qualify for Junior World must do so in the same age division as they would play in during Junior World. Playing in an age division that does not correspond to your age at the start of Junior World will result in a forfeiture of points earned during those tournaments. Example: If your son/daughter is 10 years-old but will turn 11 before the start of Junior World, he/she must qualify in the 11-12 age division.
